What I like about Doughnut Plant is they have all of the doughnuts they currently have in a glass case right next to the register so you can see the doughnuts up close and decide what you want. The staff was very helpful. The cashiers are very patient and will talk through the different options with you, asking what you typically like and making recommendations. We opted for all of the chocolate options which were a Vegan Dark Chocolate Sourdoughnut, a Brooklyn Blackout cake doughnut, and a yeasted Valrhona Chocolate doughnut.

Doughnut Plant describes the Vegan Dark Chocolate as "Dark Valrhona chocolate in the sourdough and glaze." The chocolate flavor hits you upfront with each bite and then mellows out to the tangy flavor famous of sourdough. The glaze on the doughnut was a bit flakey, falling off as you ate it. You wouldn't know this doughnut is vegan.

The next doughnut we tried was the Brooklyn Blackout. It is described as a "rich chocolate cake doughnut dipped in Valrhona chocolate, with a chocolate pudding filling and then sprinkled with chocolate cake crumbs. Doughnut Plant's tribute to Brooklyn's Ebinger's bakery." This dougnut was delectably moist, most likely attributed to the pudding fillings. I will say, though, if you look at their website, their picture shows a LOT of pudding inside the doughnut, almost like a boston creme. In reality it was more like little pockets of pudding every other bite. Still delicious but it soaked into the doughnut so much that you couldn't lick the pudding out if you wanted to like their picture suggests. The chocolate glaze on this one stayed on the best while eating it, perhaps because it's a cake doughnut so there is no compression like the airy yeasted or sourdougnuts. All in all this was my favorite.

Lastly we tried the Valrhona Chocolate yeasted dougnut described as" Light, airy, fluffy doughnut dipped in fine Valrhona chocolate." This was my least favorite of the three. It wasn't very sweet and the chocolate flavor was barely there. It also had a slightly odd, almost bitter aftertaste. The sweetest part was the piped V of white icing on top. If you like very plain doughnuts this one might be for you.
